What's Been Making Me Happy This Week
A special gift, curiosity, turtlenecks, doctor visit, anticipation
Aga, a lovely friend of mine, gave me a wonderful book: Yohji Yamamoto: An Exhibition Triptych. She got it from Catawiki, an auction website I now obsessively check as well. It was her first auction purchase ever. And it was for me! There’s almost no better feeling than when someone gives you a thoughtful present, wouldn’t you agree? This gesture touched me deeply, and the book is the inspiration behind my next week’s newsletter about Yohji Yamamoto. You see, I only have maybe three or four friends who follow this newsletter not because they’re my friend, but because they genuinely enjoy reading me. Aga is one of them. She actually told me: “although I’m far from fashion you make me a bit more interested in general as I start to look at brands you are mentioning in your posts.” This quote will stay with me for a long long time. I made at least one person a bit more curious. How amazing is that?!
Speaking of curiosity, I think it’s the best. I think it’s the thing that keeps you energetic, lively, engaged, young!? I am curious and I am drawn to people who are curious. I just realized I wanna do a post on “10 things I’m curious about.” Right now I am curious about this TV-series I discovered titled “Drops of God” — I really like the story, especially the way it connects France and Japan. Learning about the connection between these two countries is at the top of my research list. There surely is a link, and I’m curious to understand why it exists, how it developed, when it began, in what aspects it manifests, and where it can be seen.
Do you know this page: theleoisallinthemind? It kept me glued to the screen for an hour! The colors, the pictures, wow!

Turtlenecks. I wrote about them, and now I have also realized I love a double-turtleneck.
A doctor visit that was, dare I say, almost life-changing. This week, I saw a GP —not for anything serious, just because I’m so curious — and one of my burning questions was: “Why am I always freezing when everyone else seems fine? According to the Internet, I have every disease known to humanity. What’s wrong with me??” The doctor looked at me, paused, and then said, “Well… you’re not really dressed warmly. Look at me — I’m wearing more layers than you. Maybe try a warmer jacket?” Whoa! Revolutionary, right? But you know what? I actually did try it. Warmer jacket, tights under my pants, the whole deal — and I’m no longer freezing! I feel… normal. Like, temperature-normal. It’s incredible. Highly recommend this doctor. 10/10. Yesterday, my friend Vika and I joked that next, I should book a financial advisor. We can already hear the advice: “You don’t have enough money? Well… just stop spending it!”
Acceptance: I have finally accepted the fact that a €2.49 Garnier shampoo works way better for my hair than any €25 fancy shampoo I’ve tried. I feel equal parts foolish and relieved.
Anticipation: I love having something to look forward to. Sure, I try to embrace the “be here now” philosophy, but for me, having this spark of excitement ahead makes everything better. This week, I’ve been counting down to the Christmas/NYE holidays because… I’m going to Spain! Spain — for the third month in a row. Do I have some grand, mysterious reason for the repeated visits? Well, well, well…
These slippers from La Perla. From Vinted. Italy. €11. Unworn. They make me feel so chic. I’m the chicest person in my apartment. …Where I live alone!
AND YOU??? Come on, it’s like a gratitude journal. What’s been making you happy this week?
Yes, message her!
Enjoy your Sunday,
Anni
